RING OF FIRE is Richard Maltby Jr.’s homage to the music and spirit of Johnny Cash. Fresh from a recent Broadway run, RING OF FIRE has it all – the drama of his memorable life and career told by a cast of talented singers/musicians and more than 40 of his great hits including “I Walk the Line,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Jackson” and of course “Ring of Fire” (written by his wife/collaborator June Carter Cash). Johnny Cash fans will be thrilled by this exciting journey through the life and work of this great artist. But you don’t need to be a fan to enjoy this show.
Fireside Theatre artistic director Ed Flesch explains, “This is a musical revue without a traditional plot, and while you won’t see someone on the stage portraying Johnny Cash, there are elements of his life that shine through his music to which we can all relate.” Flesch continued, “RING OF FIRE is a broad-strokes sampling of the American experience — and the faith, family, roots, travel, home and relationships that come with that experience. It’s about the really basic family values,” he concluded. Flesch will direct eight New York and Regional singer/musicians in this inspiring and uplifting musical tribute to the man in black on The Fireside stage.

In HAIRSPRAY it's 1962—the '50s are out and change is in the air. Baltimore's Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart, has only one passion—to dance. She wins a spot on the local TV dance program, The Corny Collins Show and, overnight, is transformed from outsider to irrepressible teen celebrity. But can a plus-size trendsetter in dance and fashion vanquish the program's reigning princess, win the heart of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a television show without denting her 'do? Only in HAIRSPRAY! Welcome to the '60s!
HAIRSPRAY is based on the New Line Cinema film written and directed by John Waters, who served as a creative consultant on the musical comedy. It features a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan.
